People like to see the origin and the (positive) impact of their work. Being aware of one’s work is an important driving force for involvement, productivity and happiness.
Unfortunately, however, it is not easy for a leader to make people on their team feel the purpose and involvement in their work.
Speaking of purpose is important but it risks being redundant and meaningless.Pursuing a focus on personal history and one’s own work, personalizing the purpose, so that people can perceive it in their narrative. The words and behaviors of leadership towards the goal must however be coherent, to give a sense of authenticity and be inspirational. Last thing, for example, is more difficult, it is necessary to be continuous and perpetual in pursuing an authentic purpose, otherwise all the work done previously is wasted.
